So, you’ve decided that you want some updated photos of yourself. That’s the first step to elevating your brand!
It may be a little bit overwhelming, and you probably have lots of questions. Being prepared for your session is a great way to know what to expect, and help you enjoy the process.

Here are some tips to prepare you for your portrait session.
1. The best way to prepare for your session is getting into a calm and positive mindset. Try to relax the night before, and get a good night’s sleep. This will help you feel more at ease on the day.
2. Choose clothing that you are comfortable wearing and suits your personality, as well as your job role. Think about how you want to be presented to your target audience. If you’re still not sure, wear something you would wear to a casual meeting. It’ll show that you are professional but also friendly and approachable. You can bring a couple of different options to our session, and I’m always here to help you decide!
3. As this is a headshot, what is worn from the waist up is the most important. Choose a fit that is comfortable, and tailored to your individual style.
4. If your style is more ‘casual’ or ‘creative’, a colourful jacket, shirt or blouse is a good alternative. That said, you should be careful to not have the clothing style take the spotlight from you.
5. Try to make sure your outfit is wrinkle and stain free as this will show up in the photos. You may have to iron your outfit in advance. I would recommend trying on your outfit a few days in advance to make sure you feel comfortable in it. Then get the outfit ready the night before.
6. Consider choosing clothing that isn’t too seasonal. For example, bulky coats or winter scarves. We want your portrait to look good at all times of the year.
7. Accessories can be great additions to your portrait as they help bring some of your personality to the forefront. However, we don’t want them to distract from the portrait. Please feel free to bring along extra accessories so that we can try different options.
Here’s a few tips to help prepare you for your headshot session. Just remember that your photographer is open to answer any questions you may have, and can help you feel at ease.
